Business Need
Business Need: MyFridays is a live platform that automates charitable giving, allowing users to donate every Friday during the Hour of Acceptance. While the platform was already active, a new version was needed to improve donor experience, engagement, and charity management before its official relaunch in Ramadan 2025.
Problem
he existing MyFridays platform had two major problems:
- Friction in the donor journey → The old experience required users to pick a charity first, which created detachment from impact and resulted in low engagement.
- Lack of a structured charity dashboard → Charities had no clear way to track donations, manage causes, or optimize fundraising efforts, making financial planning difficult.
- The absence of a strong landing pages made onboarding less effective.
Without these refinements:
- Donors might lose engagement due to complex flows.
- Charities could struggle with unpredictable funding and lack of insights.
Goals
For Donors:
- Refine the donation journey to be cause-driven instead of charity-first.
- Make setting up recurring donations effortless (under 2 minutes).
- Increase engagement & retention through an emotionally connected experience.
For Charities:
- Design and launch the first-ever charity dashboard for better donation tracking and reporting.
- Enable charities to manage causes, team members, and donor insights within a single interface.
- Improve financial visibility to help organizations scale their impact.
For Both sides:
- Create new landing pages to streamline onboarding for both donors and charities.
Project Strategy
- Shifted the donor flow from charity-first to cause-based giving. Users now pick a cause Food Aid, Disaster Relief, Refugee Assistance and donations flow directly to that cause. Charities still receive funds but the journey feels more purposeful and reduces drop-off.
- On the charity side, designed a comprehensive dashboard with real-time donation monitoring, financial reporting, team management, fundraising widgets, and leaderboard tracking. The old single-page mobile scroll was split into multiple screens to reduce cognitive load and improve usability across devices.
Understanding the users
The project was business-driven. User needs came from industry patterns in fintech and nonprofit UX, competitor analysis of other donation platforms, and input from Shamaazi's team and their charity partners.

Potential users and their motivations
Redesigning the donor experience
The old flow asked users to pick a charity first. Most people didn't have a strong preference, so drop-off was high. On mobile it was one long scroll.
We switched to cause-based giving. Users pick a cause, Food Aid, Disaster Relief, Refugee Assistance, and donate to it directly. Charities still receive the funds, but donors now give with a clear reason.
- Home screen leads with causes instead of charities
- Weekly donation setup takes under 2 minutes
- Each cause page explains where the money goes
- Mobile flow split across multiple screens

Creating the charity dashboard
Charities had no tools on MyFridays, they received donations but couldn't track them, export data, or manage team access. We built a dashboard to fix this.
It covers real-time donation totals, CSV financial reports, team management with role permissions, embeddable donation widgets, and leaderboard rankings.
Dashboard structure
- Dashboard Overview: total donations, payouts, active donors
- My Charity: profile and compliance
- Manage People: team roles and permissions
- Reports: export and analyze donation data
- Leaderboard: global and local rankings
- Causes: set up fundraising initiatives
- Widget: embed donation button on external sites
- Marketing Assets: templates for campaigns

We documented two flows in detail, creating a cause and adding a team member, as these are the first things most charities do.

Designing the landing page
There was no landing page before this project. We built one to explain the platform to new donors, give charities a reason to join, and back both with testimonials, impact numbers, and security details.

Key outcomes
For donors: fewer steps, shorter setup, clearer impact.
For charities: their first real view into donation data, live totals, payout schedules, and team access in one place.
For the platform: the landing page and widget extend MyFridays beyond its own app, letting charities collect funds on their own sites.
